By 2030, the municipal solid waste generation in MENA region is forecast to reach 177 million tonnes by 2030 and to reach 255 million tonnes by 2050.

National Waste Management Center (NWMC) plants to only send 18% of solid waste to landfills in KSA by 2035 and further reduce this to 10% of the total solid waste sends to landfills by 2040. Saudi Vision 2030 supports circular economy strategies for e-waste recycling and reuse. As per National Center for Waste Management (MWAN), around 840 treatment and recovery facilities will be operational across the kingdom by 2040 to achieve government’s objective to improve waste management. The Saudi government has taken strict regulation for better waste management and to promote environment sustainability. For instance, Saudi Recycling Investment Company planned to decrease 82% of the total waste from landfills and aimed to increase recycling by 42%. This will support the growth of the Saudi Arabia recycling and waste management market. Saudi Arabia government has taken initiative to ensure environmental sustainability across the kingdom. In addition to this, Saudi Aramco is conducting various waste management training programs to provide awareness regarding benefits of waste management approach among the local communities, professionals, schools, among others.

In addition, Saudi Arabia government planned to divert 60% of construction and demolition waste from landfills and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
