Organic foods are foods which are grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, bioengineered genes (GMO), petroleum-based fertilizers and sewage sludge-based fertilizers. In order to market organic foods, companies need to get certificate in some countries from the regulatory bodies such as in European Union, USA, Canada, Japan and others countries and must produce foods on standards set by the regulatory bodies in respective countries. Increasing concern towards the impact of inorganic foods on human health is driving the demand for organic foods and thus organic farming. Despite of the high cost of organic foods which is 10% to 40% more compared to inorganic or conventional foods, the demand for organic foods and beverages is growing globally owing to the health benefits associated with it.

The global market for organic foods is expected to grow at a CAGR of 16.5% from 2014 to 2020. Organic fruits and vegetables are leading the organic food market across all organic products in terms of market share followed by frozen and processed foods and dairy products. North America is the largest market for organic foods and captures almost half of the market share followed closely by Europe. However, Asia Pacific is expected to grow at the highest rate in the forecasted period.
